Beads – Tyre bead bundles allow the tyre to stay on the wheel rim. They incorporate brass, copper, or bronze-plated high tensile steel wires joined using a rubber band. These components prevent the tyre from sliding out of place when the wheel rotates. 

Bead Filler – Bead filler is a rubber compound, which extends into the tyre sidewall area. The rubber compound on the outside bead area is a firm and durable compound that provides stability to the lower sidewall. The stability performance of the bead filler helps to determine a tyre’s performance characteristics. 

Inner Liner – The inner liner is a rubber compound, which bonds to the cord body’s inside and retains air under pressure. It functions as an inner tube of the tyres and has no cord reinforcement. However, modern vehicles no longer incorporate inner liners inside them. A tyre’s inner liner, bead filler, and beads work together to hold air within the tyre walls.

Radial Cord Body – The cord body gives strength to the tyre and transmits cornering forces to the wheel from the tread. Rubber coated fabric cords, also known as body plies, make up the radial cord body of the tyre. These plies can be nylon, polyester, or rayon. The most common raw material is polyester. 

Sidewall – Sidewall is the area from the tyre’s bead to the tread – the side of the tyre. It prevents the cord body from any damage. 

The sidewall also contains all the essential tyre information. This information includes load index, tyre size, speed rating, etc. The rubber compounds of the sidewall resist any damage from cuts, ozone, and snags. 

Belt Piles – Two or more strong layers of the cord are the belt piles. It is present under the tyre tread. The primary function of belt plies is to provide stability and strength to the tyre. They play a role in improving traction, tyre mileage, and impact resistance. One of the most common radial cord compounds is steel. 

Tread – The tyre tread is the part that comes in contact with the road surface. The design and the compound balances wear, fuel economy, handling, resistance, and other tyre characteristics. There are many different tread design patterns, such as – symmetric, asymmetric and directional tread patterns. 

Sipe and Grooves – The grooves separate the tread blocks and enable your vehicle tyre to dispel water, mud and snow. Sipes are the tiny cuts or tread blocks that provide extra grip and are essential for icy and snowy surfaces. 

Rubber Compounding – Rubber compounding incorporates different materials with specific characteristics. The outside tread compound provides mileage and traction, whereas the rubber inside the tyre adheres to the belt system and offers stability to the tread. The rubber compounding may differ due to several materials available in the tyre.
